This tour covers the tour of sites of all Ethio –Italian war known as first and second Ethio –Italian wars and happened in the Ethiopian territory. The major wars are the 1st and 2nd Ethio- Italian war that has taken place during 1895–1896 and 3 October 1935 – May 1936 respectively. This tour will take visitors to the renowned battle grounds where the Italians and the Ethiopians and other nationals were part. The tour will be made with a guide who has a deep knowledge about the history of the wars. The tour will take visitors to the North, the west and the East of the country where major wars were fought.

Place of battle of the 1st Ethio- Italian war is in the north of Ethiopia. Accordingly the tour starts by Flying and driving to the site.

Day1.

Fly to Axum and then drive to Adwa

All day visit of Adwa, hiking or driving up to the mountain where the first Ethio-Italian war had taken place. Date of the war is 1st March 1896, place of the battle is Adwa or Adua as it is called by the Italians. It was a one day battle. In this war, the Italians suffered about 7,000 killed and 1,500 wounded in the battle and subsequent retreat back into Eritrea, with 3,000 taken prisoner. Brigadiers Dabormida and Arimondi were amongst the dead. Ethiopian losses have been estimated at around 4,000–5,000 killed and 8,000 wounded. Overnight Adwa.

The Second Ethio-Italian War, also referred to as the Second Italo-Abyssinian War, was in October 1935, after a battle on 5 December 1934, and ended in May 1936. The war was fought between the armed forces of the Kingdom of Italy and the armed forces of the Ethiopian Empire (also known at the time as Abyssinia). The war resulted in the military occupation of Ethiopia.

Day 2 Adwa- Adigrat

This day will take us to the battle fields of the 2nd Ethio-Italian war. Adigrat was the first town to fall under the invading Italian army crossing the Mereb River from Eritrea.

Northern front

First Battle of Tembien, Battle of Amba Aradam, Second Battle of Tembien, Battle of Shire, and Battle of Maychew.

Day 3: Adigrat - Maychew

 

  • From 20 to 24 January, the First Battle of Tembien was fought. The outcome of this battle was not a decisive Italian victory, but the threat Ras Kassa posed to the I Corps and III Corps was neutralized.

  • From 10 to 19 February, the Battle of Amba Aradam was fought. The outcome of this battle was a decisive Italian victory and the destruction of the army of Ras Mulugeta.

  • From 27 to 29 February, the Second Battle of Tembien was fought.
